What Is Complex Trauma in Women? (And Why You Might Not Think You Have It)
You were the "easy" kid. Nobody ever asked what it cost you.
Your childhood had food on the table and two parents at every recital. So when someone mentions trauma, you shrug it off. Trauma is what happens to "other people."
Complex trauma in women rarely looks like trauma. Usually it isn't one terrible event. It's what happened over and over, or what never happened at all: nobody noticing you were struggling, nobody asking why you spent so much time in your room. A girl who grows up that way learns to handle everything alone. Then everyone calls her the strong one.
As an adult, it can look like a jaw that aches when you wake up, a pit in your stomach when you have to go to your mom's, or anger at your husband that scares you because you love him, and can't say where it's coming from.
